ABOUT RYOKO, MS, LMT, CSYT
Ryoko (“Lyo-ko”) completed her first yoga teacher training and became a registered yoga teacher in 2002. Originally from Japan, Ryoko grew up with traditional Buddhism philosophy and has continued to study, practice and share those ideals through teaching and studying different forms of yoga. In 2005, she deepened her meditation with Vipassana Meditation and yoga practice under the guidance of Swami Samarpanananda Saraswati in India.
Ryoko has her B.S. degree in Athletic Training, Magna Cum Laude, (minor in Psychology), and her M.S. degree in Sports Medicine & Biomechanics. She is also a licensed massage therapist, STOTT Pilates/Qigong (Ancient Chinese healing modality/moving form of meditation) instructor, certified Strength & Conditioning specialist, and Reiki (a Japanese form of stress reduction & relaxation that also promotes healing) practitioner. In addition to different Eastern healing modalities and Western osteopathic manual therapy techniques, Ryoko also has used yoga as an integral part of rehabilitation with great success in Orthopedic Physical Therapy settings.
After her extensive and thoughtful study of Western medicine, Kripalu, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Anusara, Iyengar, Yin, Acu-Yoga, and Qigong, Ryoko discovered the most benefit (physical, mental and emotional transformation) and true teaching of Yoga in her study and teaching of Svaroopa® yoga, which focuses on releasing deep layers of spinal tension. Under the guidance of Swami Nirmalaananda Saraswati (formerly Rama Berch, the originator of Svaroopa® yoga), Ryoko travels to study Svaroopa® yoga, Yoga therapy, and meditation through the Master Yoga Foundation in Malvern, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia. Ryoko’s passion for teaching and extensive therapist experience makes her classes truly unique, warm, joyful, peaceful, meditative, and therapeutic as well as providing a safe environment for learning.
Ryoko brings over 10 years of clinical manual therapist experience, treating and educating patients of all ages as well as athletes and professionals from all levels (profesional musicians, Olympian gold medalist, professional to youth football leagues, etc...), with orthopedic injuries, repetitive use conditions, automobile accident injuries, and spine disorders. Ryoko’s Integrated Therapeutic Massage & Holistic Healing includes Yoga Therapy, Embodyment®, Ayurvedic Treatment, Craniosacral Therapy, Strain Counterstrain, Neuromuscular, Medical Massage, Mobilization, Muscle Energy Technique, Shiatsu, Reiki, and Prenatal Massage. After a consultation before the session, your session will be designed, with care, to meet your individual needs. Ryoko’s comprehensive service includes a thorough evaluation, individually designed treatment, and your own self-care home program to maintain the optimum healing effect.
Ryoko’s unique approach of bridging her extensive background in Western medicine and Eastern healing modalities makes her sessions very useful in not only treating acute musculoskeletal conditions, but also chronic pain issues, such as neck/shoulder/back pains, headache/migraines, Fibromyalgia, etc., which have failed to heal from more traditional Physical Therapy and Chiropractic approaches. Her practice focuses on the integrated healing of body & mind, guiding people to connect with their innate wisdom and inner ability to heal. Instead of treating only symptoms, she addresses the underlying causes of an illness in very subtle way (not forcefully, but gently) to dissolve physical, mental and emotional blockages (pain, discomfort, and old mental patterns, etc.). Experience deep relaxation, transformation, and profound changes in your body, mind and emotions to be present in your own presence! Ryoko is available for one-on-one healing sessions and private/semi-private yoga classes in Knoxville and Nashville TN.
While continuing her spiritual journey and practice, during her free time, Ryoko enjoys Ayurveda cooking, gardening, traveling, reading, listening to music, and playing her piano & harmonium.
